2000 NATIONALS TO BE HELD IN VANCOUVER ON JULY 27-30:

Some time ago, Brian Gisel, the TD for the 2000 Canadian
Ultimate Championships, requested that the date for nationals
be changed from August 17-20 to July 27-30. The pros and cons
of the two dates were considered by the CUPA Board for a number
of weeks. There was a great deal of consultation with members
across the country as to what their preference would be. And
a very tight decision was made (final vote was 5 to 4).

The main arguments for the earlier dates are: 1) more convenient
for the players attending Worlds in Germany which will be from
August 6-12, 2) better for the organizers as some of them might
play in Germany, 3) better for promotion, eg can point out that
three Canadian teams won Gold at the 98 Worlds and those teams
will "defend their titles next week in Germany".

The main arguments for the later dates are: 1) allows for a
longer playing season, especially in the more wintery parts
of the country, and 2) avoids having Nationals right before
or right after current established tournaments.

I would like to thank all of the members that contacted their
Board members and/or me with their opinions on this issue. I
realize that many of you preferred the later dates and will be
disappointed with the Board's decision. But I sincerely hope
that if you are interested in playing at Nationals that you
will be able to arrange your schedules to be able to play on
the July dates.

Thank you,

NOTE TO ALL JUNIORS TEAM COACHES/CONTACTS:

CUPA members:

The following note was recently sent to a number of Juniors
Team Coaches and Contacts. To be sure it reaches anyone who
might have suggestions for the team, I am forwarding it to
this email list. Let me thank Dean, Jack, and Mike for
agreeing to sit on the Juniors Team Selection Committee.

John Harris, Exec Dir

-------------------------

Dear Coaches, Contacts and Board Members,

Recently, the selection committee for this year's Canadian
Junior Ultimate team was formed. Jack Webb, coach of the 1999
National champions and the 2000 National coach, will be chairing
the committee. Mike Kaweski, the BC Junior coordinator, and I
will also be on the committee. We have been mandated to put
together a team that we feel would best represent Canada at
the 2000 World Championships held in Heilbronne, Germany,
August 5-12.

In order to create such a team, we need your input. We are
currently accepting recommendations for players (male or
female) who may qualify to play on the National team. WFDF
age restrictions indicate that the player must be 19 or under
on December 31, 2000. If you have any local players on your
team or in the area that you feel should be considered, please
let us know.

We will need the following information in order to consider any
recommendations.
- Name:
- Address:
- Phone No:
- Gender:
- Date of Birth:
- Number of years played:
- Experience at National/World Level:
- Typical Position: (ie. handler, mid, deep):
- A brief but informative bio, telling why we should consider
this player:

If there are Junior players in your region who do not have a
coach, and they are interested in applying for a spot on the
team, they may send in their own application. These players
will still need an adult willing to act as a reference.

All recommendations should be sent to Jack Webb
<668prouf@sympatico.ca>. Please cc. the information to Mike
Kaweski and Dean Wright
.

The deadline for recommendations and applications is Sunday,
January 30. The team will be chosen shortly after that, with
invitations being sent to selected players. Therefore, it is
extremely important that you send us all pertinent information
about the player(s) you are recommending and that you do so
right away.

Sincerely,

Dean Wright
Canadian Junior Ultimate Coordinator

P.S. If you know of anybody who did not receive this email and
should have, please forward it on to them and send their email
address to me. Thanks!

TO: CANADIAN DISC PLAYERS:

Re: Canadian GUTS Team

As Executive Director of CUPA, I am the initial Canadian
contact for the WFDF World Championships to be held in
Heilbronne, Germany in August. Canada is eligible to send

interested in going to Germany to represent Canada? The Guts
tournament run from Tuesday, August 8 through Saturday,
August 12. If you are at all interested, please contact me
at harrisj@interlog.com.
