ESCAPADE 2000:

OCUA has be asked to "participate" in the NCC's event....
"Escapade 2000"

>From what I understand, they will be closing off all NCC
parkways and bike paths on July 2nd (National Hangover Day)
and creating a loop all around the region. People can cycle,
skate, walk, run as much of the loop as they want to, joining
in at any time or place. Little bit of tourism, little bit of
participation sort of thing. They're also going to make six
way stations at various points on the loop with various demos,
booths and stuff at each one.

They'd like a demonstration of Ultimate at one of them. Maybe
just an on-going game, maybe have spectators join in, maybe a
lot of different things...our choice.

This would be a great opportunity for OCUA to increase our
presence in the region, make Ottawa a little more Ultimate
friendly and make the NCC a little more Ultimate aware.

Maybe it pays off in more sponsorship, maybe some NCC land
might eventually become available, maybe they'll let us aerate
Riverside.....

Volunteers will be needed, though, if only to play pick-up
all day. How about it folks? Willing to strap on the cleats
and play some disc on July 2nd??

Contact me if you are interested.

Thanks,

Mike Hall-Jones

NEW WOMEN MASTERS TEAM:

This is an invitation to all Masters Women to form a team(s)
to compete in a new Women's Masters division at Nationals this
year. If you are interested in forming a team, please e-mail
Inge (inge@ingenius.bc.ca) ASAP! Teams from Calgary and Vancouver
have already committed, so now it's time for Hamilton's mighty
women to take up the challenge!

NERVE IN 2000:

Nerve is a new touring ultimate team in Toronto, looking to
wreak havoc at Nationals. We are looking for players. If you
are:

1. Skilled in the art of disc (You can throw the full-field
cross-wind scoober from your endzone corner. Your cuts put
Ben Johnson to shame. You do a couple of layout greatest
in the course of a day. You can out sky Mr. Air Canada,
   Vince "half-man half-amazing" Carter.)

2. Team player (You get beer for the whole team ... in kegs.)

3. Coachable (You're told by the captain that you should play
with your shirt inside out and no cleats because of wind
resistance and traction concerns, and you do it, despite
   your better judgment.)

4. Dedicated (You make it to practice after working 72 hours
straight because if you don't, you'll feel you cheated your
body out of one day of fun ultimate.)

5. Intense (You start using the lingo during every day
conversations, i.e. "can I poach some money? I can't find
a bank machine" or "Man, did I D that question at the staff
   meeting.")

6. Focused (You don't notice that all of Stella is parading
around the sidelines naked for the whole game.)

7. Fun-loving guy (ultimate is your favorite pastime)

we'd like to meet you. We are having practices at UCC's old
gym (clock tower: go in, turn left, go down the hall, turn
right) 18:30 to 21:00, on Wednesdays. There is also an organized
fitness run at the Casa Loma stairs (Spadina and Davenport)
from 19:30 to 20:30 on Tuesdays. Please come out. We'd love
to meet our future teammates!
