MARCH MELTDOWN CANCELLED:

March Meltdown 2000 has been cancelled due to good weather.
The RA Centre will not rent us the fields without snow and we
can't use the league fields without snow. On the up side, this
should mean that the fields could dry sooner than usual.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me,

Gavin.

HELP - OCUA NEEDS FIELDS:

OCUA is always looking for new fields to play on. To help us
avoid using the really bad fields help us out if you know of
a field or satisfactory open spot that may be useful.

Because we do not have the time (we have lives to remember)
we need you to do the following to help us out as well.

1) Pace the field out to make sure it is big enough and does
not have an obvious dangers (manholes, pits, caves and
old car parts). Remember a field should be 120 yards
long (including the end zones) and 40 yards wide.

2) Do a preliminary contact with whoever owns the field if
it resides on a business property, high school, whatever.
See if they are enthusiastic, indifferent or hostile
towards letting us use the field.

3) Send the contact info, directions and comments about the
field to OCUA's new field manager Eric Morin
   (emorin@magma.ca).

Thanks in advance for helping out.
Mike

SEE YOU IN THE END-ZONE, HANRY:

Yesterday, I found out too late, that a teammate and neighbor
of mine, Hanry Jarema, from Observing Uranus, died of a heart
attack on February 29, 2000. He was 42 years old. I called him
teammate and that is how I viewed him, not a friend, but an
acquaintance. Hanry was a quirky fellow with a heart of gold.
The first time I met him, 5 years ago at a clinic for new
players, he invited our "drill group" to join him for dinner.
I declined as it was Mother's Day. He offered to join us for
dinner. I thanked him for his interest and declined his offer,
but I always thought that was bizarre. Hanry was different,
but I always knew he meant well, and just liked to be included.
I now find myself feeling guilty that I did not try to get to
know him better, as a friend. Most of our teammates only found
out hours after his funeral was over that he had passed away
and were not able to attend. My fiance, Bill, and I definitely
would have gone. I told Bill last night and he was very upset
as well. Bill clearly remembered his best play ever, and it
included Hanry. Bill was hucking and Hanry just took off, all
of the way down the field. Hanry made a beautiful catch, without
having to lay-out and even made the other team cheer! That is
how hard Hanry used to play.

Hanry used to remember the little things. He sent me a Mickey
Mouse post card, knowing that I had a Mickey Mouse shower curtain
and thinking that I would appreciate the gesture. I did. Hanry
always remembered my birthday, called me every year and sang
"Happy Birthday" to my answering machine. My captain, Sue, and
I have the same birthday, and she always got the same call.
This year the call never came and I remember thinking that was
strange. The call will never come again and I will miss it.
Although I did not consider Hanry a friend, and always felt
he was a little odd, he was a very good man and I am sorry I
missed the opportunity to know him better. We all have our
idiosyncrasies, and I will miss Hanry's, in a strange way.

See you in the end-zone, Hanry.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - NATIONAL CAPITAL RACE WEEKEND:

The National Capital Race Weekend May 13th and 14th is just
around the corner and we are gearing up for it. The NCM Weekend
features the Nordion 10km races (running, inline skating and
wheelchair events), the National Capital Marathon and Half
Marathon as well as an Inline Skate Half Marathon, 5km and 2
km fun runs. Primarily a competitive and fun weekend, last
year we raised over $400,000 for the Civic Hospital's Breast
Health Centre and Prostate Centre.

This request is to any and all who are available to take part
as a volunteer. If you and/or some friends and family would
like to get together, we could really use the help. Even if
you are running one event, please consider coming out to watch
and participate as a volunteer for the others. The races start
and finish near the Regional Municipality of Ottawa Carleton
and follow routes around the Rideau Canal. If there is a
particular area of the race where you would like to be located
(e.g. near your home) I will endeavor to accommodate your
request.

All volunteers receive a lovely NCM T-shirt, lunch from Subway
on Sunday and my heart-felt appreciation. You can reach me at
paula.burchat@nrc.ca or 993-6282 or 841-7243.

NEW NORDION 10km ROUTE: For those of you running it, the route
has been changed from what was published in the registration
booklet and it now starts on Colonel By near Laurier Bridge.
It proceeds south on Colonel By then exits at Bronson Place
and crosses over Bronson Bridge where it turns right into the
residential area and connects to Queen Elizabeth Drive just
north of the Bronson Bridge and then finishes at the RMOC. An
