ONLINE PLAYER REGISTRATION UPDATE

This is to inform everyone that the player registration form
is finally up on the website. We apologize for the long delay -
we realize that this leaves very little time for players to
register before Saturday's registration. However, you will
still be required to provide a roster deposit if 12 members
of your team are not registered by Saturday morning. This
may seem somewhat unfair given the short time frame
available, but we think it is reasonable for a number of
reasons.

First of all, we DO require some guarantee that rosters will
be submitted and the deposit serves this purpose. Secondly,
the $50 deposit cheque is to be postdated for May 14, and
will only be cashed if you do not have the required number of
players registered by May 14th. Since the $50 is not required
up front, we feel that it doesn't really place any additional
burden on teams. In addition, this year was the first time we
have given teams the option of not having to submit a deposit
if they had the required players registered by registration
day, and it was done simply as a matter of convenience. If
most of your team has email, we hope that you will still be
able to take advantage of this.

So, once again, our apologies, but logistics dictate that we
have to hold the line on this one. We are sorry for the
inconvenience, and we hope that the system will prove itself
worthy of the wait as the season goes on.

Thanks,

Ken Lange
president@ocua.ca

PLEASE STAY OFF THE FIELDS

Just a reminder for those of you who are anxious to get out
and play that you should avoid using OCUA fields prior to the
start of the season, as the fields are very sensitive to
damage at this time of year. Of course, this also holds true
for any other fields that are not in good condition, but it
is especially important for the fields we use for league, as
our ability to maintain our hold on these fields and to
obtain more is dependent on our responsible use. Damage
caused to the fields and to our reputation could be
irreparable, so please help us out on this one.

Cheers!

TRAINING CAMP & TRYOUTS FOR WOMEN'S TRAVELING ULTIMATE TEAMS

Throughout the summer, several Ultimate tournaments are
organized across Eastern Canada and Northeastern U.S. Ottawa
is often represented by several teams (women, men and coed)
at tournaments in Toronto, Montreal, Boston and New York.
And, of course, we have our own excellent tournament here at
home, No Borders. In preparation for the upcoming season, two
of Ottawa's top women's ultimate teams, Stella and Catch 22,
will be holding a training camp on April 22 at the Coliseum
(the bubble over Lansdown Park) from 4-6pm. A small amount
($5-10) to help cover the cost of renting the facility would
be greatly appreciated.

Tryouts for both teams will be on Tuesday May 1 & 8, 2001
between 6-9 p.m. on field #3 at the Coliseum. We will also
be organizing teams for the Toronto Ultimate Tournament
(TUT). Everyone who attends tryouts is welcome to join us for
our first tournament of the season in Toronto on May 5-6,
2001.

May 1 and 8 - Tryouts will be held at the Coliseum (the
bubble over Lansdown Park), 6-9p.m.

Both teams ask for some commitment for practice time (1-2 per
week) and tournaments (5-6 between May-August). Please come
out to the first tryout to see what it's all about and ask
as many questions as you like!

Help us get the word out - Please pass this message on.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about Catch 22
please contact Sue Fraser at 725-2876 or sfraser@aquaterre.ca.
For information about Stella you can go to www.ocua.ca and
select Teams from the homepage (it will be updated any day
now). If you have specific questions please contact Erin
Huck at erin_huck@hotmail.com or 244- 0738.

TAGS 2001 DISC GOLF TOURNAMENT

Saturday, May 5th 10am
Jacques Cartier Park

$10 - for a non-TAGS entry
$20 - for a TAGS entry
+$5 - for all non-ODGC members

This is a 24 hole tournament being held at JCPark. The
second round will be a jungle course with totally new tee
placements.

TAGS is an ongoing ranking system that facilitates friendly
competition and provides a medium for spontaneous wagering,
endless hours of trash talk, rewards for a great round and
consequences for the one you'd rather forget.

How it works:

Each player is given a TAG to carry on his or her bag. Each
TAG is numbered. So, if there are 20 people involved, there
will be TAGS 1 through 20 in circulation.

During the start of any game, TAGS may be wagered. The
challenge will generally come from the higher numbers, but
even top ranked TAG holders can challenge the lower seeded
players and risk losing their precious ranking. Declining
challenges is poor form.

In order to keep it exciting, TAGS has a simple handicap
system.

TAGS 1-5
Give 1 stroke to 6-10
Give 2 strokes to 11 and up.

TAGS 6-10
Get 1 stroke from 1-5.
Give 1 stroke to 11 and up

TAGS 11- and up
Get 2 from 1-5
Get 1 from 6-10

If the higher number beats the lower number, players exchange
TAGS If the lower number beats the higher number, no TAGS are
exchanged. A tie is considered a push. Each player retains
his or her TAG.

Generally, these competitions are between two players, but
you may be creative. After all, it's just a game.

Anyone entering the mix after the TAGS tourney will begin his
or her battle for top spot with the new last place TAG.
