IMPORTANT QUESTION REGARDING LEAGUE CO-ED RATIOS

With the season soon to be upon us, the BOD is busy working
on preparations for 2002 (watch for registration information
to be out soon). One of the things that we've been talking
about is the possible dissolution of the 5/2 leagues, making
all of our coed play 4/3. We were one of the first leagues
to offer 4/3 play, and we are one of the last to offer 5/2
(in both cases, a product of our size, I imagine). There has
been some heated debate about it, as there are pros and cons
to making the move. Here is our reasoning so far:

Reasons for moving to all 4/3

- reduced administration. It's obviously easier to run one
league per night as opposed to two.
- consolidation of talent pool. With different leagues on
Mondays and Wednesdays, the talent pool is effectively split
in two, with teams from top to bottom in each league having
fewer teams at their level to compete against. Making
everything 4/3 would help give everyone more competition,
  and hopefully, better games.
- 4/3 is now the standard coed ratio for tournament and
  championship play around the world.
- 5/2 leagues have been in decline for several years

Reasons for keeping 5/2

- some teams have difficulty fielding enough women for 4/3
- our general policy as a BOD has always been to provide the
players with what they want. While 5/2 leagues have been in
decline, if there are still sufficient teams that want to
play 5/2, then perhaps we should maintain them on that basis
  alone.

We'd like to hear your opinion on the subject, particularly
if you are currently playing in a 5/2 league. Voice your
opinion on the website open forum, or send me an email
letting me know what you think. We'll need to make a
decision on this soon, so don't delay - we want to make the
decision that's right for you.

Cheers!

CITY OF OTTAWA INDOOR FACILITY STUDY

Imagine if Ottawa had twice the number of indoor fields, or
more! You can help make it happen by signing an electronic
petition at www.runnersweb.com and following the link to
indoor training facility.

The City of Ottawa is having a meeting February 7th to
discuss the possibility of having a new facility built. A
major push for this has come from the Track and Field
community, but they understand the importance of a facility
like this to us and have asked us to help.

To read more on the issue, you can read up about it on their
website.

Please take the 1 minute it will take to visit the website
and 'sign' the electronic petition.

CO-ED TRYOUTS

Do you think you have what it takes to play at the
competitive level? Are you not afraid of the opposite sex?
Well look no further, this year the Fabulous Flying
Flamingoes are having open tryouts!

Why play for the Flamingoes?

The Flamingoes are Ottawa's premiere co-ed traveling team.
The Flamingoes have competed at the past 3 National
championships and are poised to finish top of the pack when
Nationals are hosted in Ottawa this year. We play to win,
but never forget Spirit of the Game.

Having existed as long as we have, we hold bids to every
major tournament in Ontario. With the popularity of Co-ed
increasing it is becoming more difficult for new teams to
get a bid in. Why take the chance? Come play for us!

Tryouts times will be announced in the spring.
Practices go from May to August.
We play in about 8-10 tournament from May to October.

For more information contact Gavin Thompson -
gavint@istar.ca or check us out online - www.fffultimate.com

Thanks,
The Flamingoes.
