your time, could make a HUGE difference.

Currently, we are looking for people to help out at the
Captain's meeting on April 24th, Coaches for Kids League,
and help for No Boarders. For details check out the postings
on the volunteer page of the web site. Remember to check out

OCUA KIDS' LEAGUE NEEDS COACHES AND PLAYERS!

In 2001, OCUA developed a Youth Ultimate League for boys and
girls between the ages of 9-12 and 13-15, designed to expose
younger age groups to the sport so it can continue to grow.
The focus is on teaching rudimentary ultimate & disc skills
with an emphasis on spirit of the game. In 2002, the Youth
League consisted of 10 co-ed teams with 10 kids per team and
this number is expected to grow in 2003.

Duration: May 15 - July 31
Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm, every Thursday
Format: 15 minute warm-up (6:00-6:15), practice/educational
   drills (6:15-6:45), game (6:45-7:45), cheer (7:45-8:00)
Location: Ultimate Parks Inc., Manotick Station

Coach Responsibilities: Coaches are responsible for arriving
on time (6:00pm), getting their team together to do a warm
up and some practice, and ensuring they have all left the
field at the end of the night. It will also be the
responsibility of each coach to find a replacement for
themselves if they are not going to be there.

Each team requires 1 male and 1 female coach. Couples are
welcome.

We're also looking for players: ultimate is great summer
sport where boys and girls can play together and make new
friends. It's an inexpensive sport to play - cleats are the
only recommended equipment. The league is looking for
children between the ages of 9-12 and 13-15. Registration
forms can be found at www.ocua.ca under Youth League 2003.

For more details, contact Karen Lange at kids@ocua.ca.

PHOENIX ULTIMATE CLUB TRYOUTS

Phoenix Ultimate Club is looking to build on the successes
of last season. If you are interested in becoming a member
of Ottawa's own Open Ultimate team, try-outs will be held:

Sat, April 26 - 2PM to 4PM, University of Ottawa Sports
Complex
Thu, May 1 - 8:30PM to 10PM, University of Ottawa Sports
Complex
Sat, May 3 - 10AM to noon, Baseline & Fisher Baseball
Diamond and Rugby Fields.

Our schedule this season is:

May 10-11, White Mountain Open, Dartmouth, NH
June 28-29, BUDA Invitational, Boston, MA
July 5-6, Montreal Jazz Tournament
July 13-14, No Borders
July 19-20, Purchase Cup, Purchase, NY
July 26-27, Regional Qualifier (if necessary)
August 14-17, Nationals
UPA FAll Series dates to be determined.

Our practice schedule is:

May 12 to June 27 - Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays.
June 30 to July 29 - Tuesdays & Thursdays.
July 30 to August 15 - Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays.

Player fees are expected to be approx. $300. This $$ will
cover all tournament fees (including Nationals), CUPA fees,
UPA fees, 2 GAIA jerseys and 1 pair of GAIA shorts.

This year, we are looking to create a team of up to 30
dedicated players, of which 21 will attend each tournament.
We are structuring our team in this manner because we
believe that internal competition will only serve to benefit
the team as a whole. This larger roster will also allow us
to take on some of the younger, less experienced players and
allow them to develop within the framework of our team. If
you are interested in representing Ottawa while playing
Ultimate against some of the finest teams in North America,
we invite you to try out for Phoenix Ultimate this Spring.

Please contact Jesse Bolan (Team Admin) at
jessejamesis@hotmail.com if you plan on attending try-outs.
In this email, please include your name, age, experience,
phone # and email address. Also, to cover the cost of
facility rental, we ask that all players who attend try-outs
bring $10. This figure will be adjusted based on the number
of people who attend.
