RESIGNATION OF LAUREN WARDELL FROM THE BOARD

The OCUA Board of Directors regrets to announce that Lauren
Wardell submitted her resignation from the Board to the
President on April 22, 2003. We would like to thank Lauren
for all her hard work over her term, and look forward to her
continued contributions to OCUA through her other volunteer
capacities. Please give her your own thanks when you see her
on the sidelines.

The Board will be addressing the resulting vacancy in the
near future; please watch for further information.

PLEASE DO NOT PLAY ON FIELDS

As always, we are asking our members to refrain from using
sports fields prior to the start of the season. This is
especially true of the fields we use, but should also hold
for all other sports fields. The city of Ottawa has notified
all user groups that they should refrain from use of any
city fields, particularly given the late spring we are
experiencing. It is imperative that we honor this request if
we hope to receive improved service from the city in the
future.

We know you are anxious to get out and play, so we encourage
you to take advantage of OCUA sponsored pickup times at
artificial turf facilities. Due to the continued poor
condition of fields, we are looking into getting more time
where possible. Unfortunately these facilities are in high
demand, so we're not sure how successful we will be.

If you do find the need to play on real turf, please utilize
open park space not currently utilized for ultimate, and
carefully monitor the conditions as you play. If you see
that damage is being done, please act responsibly and cease
play. It's in all our best interests.

Thanks!
Ken Lange, OCUA President

INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION ONLINE

"Leaguerunner", our new online registration system is now
ready to go! All members are asked go to the web site and
register. Once you have done this, your request will be
reviewed, and you will then receive a notice of approval
containing your new permanent membership number (this is a
manual process, so please be patient). You can then activate
your account, and join your teams. Note that captains must
confirm players who ask to join their roster, and
individuals must confirm their addition to a team by a
captain. If you have any problems contact webmaster@ocua.ca.
This new registration system is imperative to the success of
OCUA. The following message sent out to captains describes
the reasoning behind the new system in more detail:

"Please be advised that the new online registration system
is now up and running. All previous files have been archived
in order to ensure the accuracy of new information. It is
imperative that if you play in an OCUA league or for an OCUA
affiliated team that you register with the online system.
The reasons for this are simple:

1 - The online system will be used to create OCUA membership
lists that will be submitted to the City of Ottawa for
consideration under the new facilities allocation process
now being introduced. Without this information, our odds of
being considered for further city fields will be greatly
reduced.

2 - The system will be used to gather player information,
and generate permanent membership numbers that will help the
Association better serve you. Your permanent member number
will take the form of YYYYGXXX, where YYYY is the year you
started playing ultimate, G is your gender (0=M, 1=F), and
XXX is the next sequential member number.

3 - Key demographic information collected will be used to
further our interests when dealing with outside groups in
areas such as sponsorship and charity partnerships.
Demographic data will always be presented in summary, and
individual records will not be kept.

4 - Most importantly, the system will be used as the means
by which all members will sign a consent form, and be
covered by the Association's liability insurance. Even if
you are just picking up for a game, the system should be
used for your own protection. Please also note that there is
a consent form to be signed by dog owners intending to bring
their pets to OCUA activities.

It is critical for the long term success of the organization
that this information be filled out completely, and
accurately. Rest assured that OCUA maintains it's long
standing commitment to maintaining your privacy in this
matter, and if you have any concerns, please refer to the
details of the privacy policy, and then contact us directly
if you have further questions."

ROSTER SUBMISSION DEADLINE

Captains are reminded that all teams must have a roster of
at least 12 confirmed players by the start of the season,
May 12, 2003. Note that players in the "requested by
captain" or "request to join by player" state DO NOT count
as official team members until confirmed. Also, be aware
that this is NOT the final deadline for roster additions.
This date will fall in the second half of the season, and
will be announced well in advance.

OCUA SPRING PICK-UP

Pick-up is at the University of Ottawa real turf field. The
cost is $5. Someone will be there to collect the money from
each player.

The times available are:

Monday April 28th from 7 to 10pm

These times are weather dependant. The University of Ottawa
has the right to cancel field time due to weather.

any OCUA session the contract will be terminated.
