SKILLS CLINIC SATURDAY JULY 26

Phoenix will be hosting a second Skills Clinic on Saturday,
July 26th at UPI. It will be run along the same lines as the
first clinic (Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced groups - 3
sessions of 50 minutes).

The clinic will start at 9:30 AM, followed by a hat
tournament from 1 to 5 PM. The clinic is free for all, as is
the hat tournament (weather permitting). There is no need to
sign up for the clinic, but if you would like to participate
in the hat tournament, please email Jesse Bolan with your
age, gender & skill level (using the OCUA ranking system) to
jessejamesis@hotmail.com.

That same evening, Phoenix will be hosting a pub night at
Local Heroes on Bank St. in recognition of their support of
your local Competitive Mens Ultimate team. Even if you are
unable to attend the clinic or hat tournament, Phoenix would
love to see as many Ultimate players as possible out that
night at Local Heroes. More details will be posted soon.

RULES CLINIC SUNDAY JULY 27

Dame Edna and wuz will be running the long awaited Rules
Clinic this Sunday, July 27 5pm - 7pm, on field #2 at Brewer
Park on Bronson, opposite Carleton U.

Please note, we are holding this on Sunday evening to allow
all teams to send a representative without disrupting league
play and so that everyone can enjoy the vast majority of the
weekend but still attend the clinic.

Thanks!

Edna and wuz

ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE

Please note that from July 21st until August 8th Limebank
Road will be closed between Leitrim and Armstrong Roads. If
this is your usual route to the SOD or UPI, then a good
alternate route is instead of turning Left on Limebank,
simply continue on River Road then go left on Rideau Road.

************************************************************

UPI HAZARDS!

There is a wasp nest under the northern most footbridge
between the parking lot and field 1. Please avoid the bridge
until further notice. A player has sustained an injury as a
result of contact with an irrigation head that had not fully
retracted. Please watch for stuck heads, and if you observe
one on your field, gently, raise it slightly and then push
down. It should not take a lot of strength. If you meet
stiff resistance when trying to push the head down, please
stop pushing. Mark the head with a rock disc for your game
and communicate the trouble to Nick Roberts ASAP.

SPIRIT 2003 CHARITY ULTIMATE TOURNAMENT

I would like to call your attention to a great event for you
and your team to participate in this fall. It is the Spirit
2003 Charity Ultimate Tournament. The Spirit 2003 Ultimate
Charity Tournament was created to raise funds for five local
mental health charities and to increase awareness and
sensitization about mental health conditions and the people
they affect. It is an all day event being held on September
13, 2003 at the Nepean Equestrian Park. There are some great
bonuses as well...free lunch, great entertainment, 3 to 4
games, a beer tent etc. There are even prizes for teams with
the most pledges and other incentive prizes up for grabs.
This is the first year of this event which has been
organized to become what the HOPE beach volleyball event has
become for beach volleyball but for ultimate instead. OCUA
has been working hard over the past year with this
organizing committee as the event's community partner and we
hope that you will encourage your teams to sign up and show
your support for this worthwhile event.

You can register online at:

Or pick up a team registration package at:
- the Ultimate Disc Golf Store at 142 Rideau Street (in CD
  Exchange)
- any Scotiabank
- all OCUA events this summer.

Register before August 13!

Come on out and enjoy the fun!

Thanks in advance for your support,
Robin Kealey
OCUA Director

THE HILLS ARE ALIVE

The Canadian Ski Patrol System is looking for 125 new
volunteers for the upcoming ski season. Join a dynamic not-
for-profit organization made up of more than 5000 volunteers
across Canada. In the Ottawa/Gatineau region, approximately
400 members of the Canadian Ski Patrollers service the nine
local ski areas, and we need you!

You probably know us by our trademark yellow and blue
jackets, sporting a yellow cross on a blue maple leaf on the
back. We are students, professionals, retirees and
everything in between! We are enthusiastic men and women
over the age of 18 who promote safe skiing and boarding, and
provide top-quality first aid services to skiers and
boarders in need. And it doesn't stop there - we provide
first aid services at different community events "365 days a
year".

Information and registration sessions will take place at
7:00 p.m. on Tuesday Sept. 2rd and Thursday September 4th,
at the RA Centre on Riverside Drive. Our training course for
the 2003-04 season starts in mid-September.

Be part of our team! Come find out what we are all about --
where we ski, what we do, and how you can become part of it
all.
