CUC FINALS

I now have the tickets for the Canadian Ultimate
Championship Finals on Sunday Afternoon at Molson Stadium in
Montreal. As it will be Ottawa teams involved in this event,
it would be great to see a big Ottawa cheering section. The
tickets are $3 each, with part of the proceeds going to
charity.

To expedite matters, I would ask that members go through
their team captains, and that the captains can bring their
teams ticket request to me. Tickets will remain on sale
until Friday August 8th, after that they will be available
at the gate for $5 each. The organizers of the event are
negotiating for a bus package that will see Ottawa
spectators travel to Montreal for $25. Questions? You know
can reach me at gm@ocua.ca

OCUA IN THE FALL & SUMMER 2004

As many of you know there are some serious issues that are
facing OCUA with regard to facilities for this coming fall
season and next summer. Please rest assured that your BOD is
doing everything it can to get things organized and to
continue to offer the service OCUA has in the past. However
there is a pretty good risk that things will have to be
reduced this fall, and at best left at current levels for
next summer.

One of the principle determining factors if cuts have to be
made will be a team's SOTG, so in order to prevent future
disappointments, please ensure that your team is doing
everything they can to maintain a high spirit level.

UPI SHARES

As you know the BOD has approved funds in the 2003 budget to
buy shares in UPI from the membership. In order to get an
idea of where the process stands, can any of the members who
wish to donate their shares please let me know. Also can any
members that wish their shares be purchased under the
‘hardship' category let me know. If you have any questions
or require additional information, please contact me at
gm@ocua.ca.

Thanks, Nick.

HEARTFELT THANK-YOU FROM THE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL OF EASTERN
ONTARIO

OCUA has received a letter of thanks from CHEO for our
generous donation to the Hospital, and for our contribution
of a 'remote hit'. The BOD would like to forward this thanks
to the membership and also to add our own to those members
who came out and helped with the filming. It is through
community interaction and support of our local charitable
institutions that OCUA can spread the word about what it
means to be 'spirited'.

Thank you. BOD

ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE

Please note that from July 21st until August 8th Limebank
Road will be closed between Leitrim and Armstrong Roads. If
this is your usual route to the SOD or UPI, then a good
alternate route is instead of turning Left on Limebank,
simply continue on River Road then go left on Rideau Road.

************************************************************

UPI HAZARDS!

A player has sustained an injury as a result of contact with
an irrigation head that had not fully retracted. Please
watch for stuck heads, and if you observe one on your field,
gently, raise it slightly and then push down. It should not
take a lot of strength. If you meet stiff resistance when
trying to push the head down, please stop pushing. Mark the
head with a rock disc for your game and communicate the
trouble to Nick Roberts ASAP.

SPIRIT 2003 CHARITY ULTIMATE TOURNAMENT

I would like to call your attention to a great event for you
and your team to participate in this fall. It is the Spirit
2003 Charity Ultimate Tournament. The Spirit 2003 Ultimate
Charity Tournament was created to raise funds for five local
mental health charities and to increase awareness and
sensitization about mental health conditions and the people
they affect. It is an all day event being held on September
13, 2003 at the Nepean Equestrian Park. There are some great
bonuses as well...free lunch, great entertainment, 3 to 4
games, a beer tent etc. There are even prizes for teams with
the most pledges and other incentive prizes up for grabs.
This is the first year of this event which has been
organized to become what the HOPE beach volleyball event has
become for beach volleyball but for ultimate instead. OCUA
has been working hard over the past year with this
organizing committee as the event's community partner and we
hope that you will encourage your teams to sign up and show
your support for this worthwhile event.

You can register online at:

Or pick up a team registration package at:
- the Ultimate Disc Golf Store at 142 Rideau Street (in CD
  Exchange)
- any Scotiabank
- all OCUA events this summer.

Register before August 13!

Come on out and enjoy the fun!

Thanks in advance for your support,
Robin Kealey
OCUA Director

UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA HEART INSTITUTE STUDY

The UOHI has asked for the OCUA help in a new study they are
conducting into the 'thin gene'. If you are the type of
person that has always been thin, or could eat whatever they
wanted without gaining excessive weight, then you might be
able to help in the study. Please see www.thingene.ca for
more details. You would be required to give a small blood
sample and answer a questionnaire, but you will get a free
breakfast and your parking paid, as well as a copy of your
lab results and a full body composition analysis.
