        SPECIAL ISSUE: IMPORTANT ELECTION NOTICE!!!


As many of you have noted, there was very little advance 
notice of the election this year, and the timelines for 
nomination/voting have been rather tight. This was because 
the board was hoping to implement changes to the electoral 
process for this year's election. Unfortunately, there were 
some delays in producing an acceptable process, and so we 
continued to push back the announcement. In the end, the 
process was not yet ready, and we had to proceed.

In retrospect, however, we believe that we may have waited 
too long even for the current process, thereby not giving 
candidates ample time to consider running for positions, or 
for teams to be able to vote responsibly. As a result, we 
are considering pushing back the dates of the election, and 
conducting the vote entirely by email. This would also give 
us the opportunity to possibly introduce the new electoral 
process, details of which can be found in the html version 
of the document presented to the board (including the 
rationale for the change):

A decision on whether or not to a) push back the election 
and b) introduce the new process will be made at the board 
meeting Tuesday, Aug 12th, and will be communicated to 
members first thing on Wednesday. We recognize that these 
possible changes are very last minute, and quite 
extraordinary, but we assure you that these measures would 
not be considered unless we felt they were critical to 
OCUA's well being. If you have any questions or comments,
