DAREDEVIL DISC'S LAYOUT FOR LIFE - NEW DATE

Layout for Life's long awaited rain date has been set at
October 4th. Teams that had registered in the spring were
given priority, but there are still lots of places available
(although the total number of teams will be capped, so if
you are interested please e-mail soon).

Here are the details:
When: October 4th
Where: Sod Farm (Some of UPI will be undergoing fall
       maintenance)
Cost: $225 per team
Divisions: Elite, Competitive, and Rec
Why: To toss some disc, and most importantly raise some
     money for cancer research.
Other details: 4 games, 4/3 gender ratio.

Rec teams will be those that are out to have fun, but aren't
necessarily interested in winning. Competitive will be for
those teams interested in winning, but may not have the
strongest team in the world, whereas the Elite division will
be held for the strongest teams in the world (if the
strongest teams in the world don't show up teams will be
placed in this division at the request of the captain and
the review of the TD).

There will be a beer tent and a cash BBQ (Again with all
money going to the fight against cancer). Field food
(bagels, fruit, water) will be provided. Daredevil Discs
will be putting on it's Funzone with great prizes being
awarded and we will hopefully be getting a radar gun speed
measurement set up as well! Come out and see just how fast
you can throw a Daredevil Disc!

For information, or to register, contact Gavin Thompson

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS WORKING GROUP

As many of you know, municipal elections will take place on
November 10, 2003. This is an opportunity for OCUA members
to remind the candidates about the role of OCUA in the
broader community, how recreation enriches our lives and
improves a city's well-being, as well as the need for
equitable distribution of recreation resources. Given OCUA's
need for city fields and our immense efforts over the years
to increase our access to these fields, we are preparing
information packages and lobby kits for those OCUA members
that want to get involved during the election. This will
complement our ongoing work and we believe that it will be
most effective if we are all reinforcing the same points.

We are looking for a team of volunteers to help pull the
kits together for our members to use. We have a lot of the
information ready in various forms, but we will need to
draft sample letters, sample e-mails and key points to
register when talking with candidates.

If you are interested in lending a hand to the effort, there
will be a meeting at the Arrow and the Loon (on Bank Street
at Fifth Ave.), September 22 at 8 pm . If you can't make
that date, please contact the communications cell directors
at communications@ocua.ca with your skill set and /or
interest in this area. There will be lots of ways you can
help out.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR DAREDEVIL DISC'S LAYOUT FOR LIFE

Daredevil Disc's Layout for Life tournament needs a few
volunteers to help with the game day operations of the

also it's all for a very good cause, the fight against
cancer.

The tournament is Saturday October 4th and volunteers can
either volunteer for a half day or for the full day.

If you are interested, of have questions about volunteering,
please contact Gavin Thompson gavint@istar.ca
