1998 NATIONALS ALLOTMENTS:

John Harris, Exec Dir

I just got off the phone with David Hoppenheim. He will be
sending more details to individual captains and will likely
post an updated info on the web page. This note is just to
try to get the highlights out as quickly as possible.

1. As of July 22, there were 43 teams that had registered for
the tourney and sent in their team fee: 21 open, 13 women's,
6 masters, and 3 juniors.

Spots have been reserved for ALL of these teams in the tourney
(I don't have the actual team list - I think Dave will put i
on the web page). However, the final payments (players fees)
are now overdue. Please get these to David as quickly as
possible. Teams will not be allowed to play any games at
Nationals until they have paid all their fees.

2. The original plan was to have two sites for Nationals - o e
with 10 fields, another with 6?. This would allow us to
accommodate up to 60 teams, hence the original allotments:
24, 16, 10, 10. It turns out the second site is not working
out as planned, so we feel that we need to decrease the total
number of teams, and to do this, based on the current response e
of teams, we have decided to decrease the final totals for t e
masters and juniors divisions. The new target numbers are as
follows:

24 open, 16 women's, 6 masters, 6 juniors.

(So we're hoping to get 3 more teams in open, women's, and
juniors divisions.)

Note that we will consider raising these numbers if more tea s
apply - by sending in their team fee $600 (e.g. open division
might go up to 28 teams if there is sufficient demand.)

3. There are currently 6-7 open teams, 2-3 women's teams, 1
masters team, and 1-2 juniors teams that have not registered
but have expressed interest in coming to the tournament.
These teams have a good shot at getting in if they get their
team fee in asap. All teams that send in their team fee will
be considered for spots in the tournament. (The teams will
NOT be picked via "first come, first served". Instead, if
there are more teams that register than we have space for,
then David and I will decide which of them gets in and which
don't.)

TEAMS THAT DO NOT PAY THEIR TEAM FEE WILL NOT *EVER* BE
GUARANTEED A SPOT. If you want to play, send in your money
($600).

4. We would like to strongly encourage the formation of
Juniors teams. If you have any chance of helping a juniors
team get to Nationals, please do try.
