What is it ?
============

In any large organisation, there are typically two separate
entities of authority. There is the typical "operational"
hierarchy ( CEO, VP's, Comptroller, etc...) and, in a less
tangible way, a Board of Directors. Board members may not
necessarily be employees of the corporation, but typically
include members who have a vested interest in the company
such as majority share-holders, founding partners, etc...

In the OCUA, we already have an "operational" hierarchy with
a General Manager, Divisional co-ordinators, Treasurer and so
forth, but we do not have a Board of Directors.

The primary functions of a Board of Directors is to act as
advisors, facilitators, and in some case as arbitrators, for
any issues dealing with the health of the OCUA.

Board members will most often be dealing with high-level
decisions that will typically have an impact on the entire
league.

OCUA Board of Directors
=======================

The OCUA Board of Directors will consist of an 8 member panel
which will be elected by the 210 teams ( as represented by
their captains ).

A ninth member, representing Ultimate Parks Inc. has
already been appointed in the person on Mike Hall-Jones.

The length of a term as Director has been establish as two
(2) years. However, exceptionally for the very first term,
some board members will only serve 1 year so as to enable the
OCUA to rotate 4 new members every year instead of all 8
members every second year. [This would allow for some degree
of continuity instead of having pre-defined 2-year cycles]

In order to start this process, 4 of the new Board members
will have a one-year term whereas the "other" four will have
two-year terms. (This will be decided by who gets the most
votes).

Who can become a board member ?
===============================

Essentially, the process is totally democratic and therefore
allows virtually anyone from the league to submit their
candidacy.

It should be pointed out however, that this position will
require a high level of commitment and Board members are
expected to have a very good attendance record (... this
isn't the House of Commons ! ). This is required in order to
keep well informed of what is going on in the league.

Board members should expect to dedicate a few hours a week
during the summer season and somewhat less during the winter
season (... although it IS a year-round commitment ! )

It should also be pointed out that an overall understanding
and familiarity with the OCUA would be preferred.

How do I submit my candidacy ?
==============================

Stephan Suys has been appointed as Elections Officer and will
serve as the central point of contact for any issues dealing
with the elections.

If you wish to submit your candidacy, simply advise him of
your intentions by sending an e-mail to [ ssuys@ibiska.com ]
or calling him at 290-9077 during work hours.

You will then have to submit a 200-300 word biography about
yourself, your involvement in the league and why you would
like to become a board member. Included with this bio, please
include a passport-type photograph of yourself.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS AND BIO IS THIS FRIDAY, AUG 14th!

Once all the information has been collected, it will be
compiled into an information kit which will be distributed to
every team prior to the elections.

The Election Process
====================

The elections will take place over the play-off week-ends of
Aug 22-23 and Aug 29-30.

Every team captain will be required to sign in on their
respective play-off day (depending on which night and division
they play in), and will be given the information package.

[ Note: The package will also be posted in the Ultimate
Happenings newsletter prior to the elections so that as many
people as possible have a chance to get the information as
early as possible ]

The captains will then have the remainder of the day to make
their decision along with their team-mates, and will have to
return their ballots at the end of the day.

The results will be tabulated after the final day of play-offs
(Aug 30th) and will be posted within 48 hours.

The 4 candidates with the highest vote count will be elected
for a TWO year term, and the candidates with the next four
highest vote count will be elected for a ONE year term (...as
explained above ).

Closing Words...
================

Well, that pretty much explains the nuts & bolts of it...

Should you have any questions or comments, please pass them
on to Stephan Suys [ ssuys@ibiska.com ] [ Tel 290-9077 ] and
if you wish to submit your name as a candidate, remember that
you must do so BEFORE THIS FRIDAY, AUG 14th.

Cheers,
Stephan Suys
