UPA FALL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES - CO ED:

OK sports fans, here it is!! In the first year ever for co-ed
to be included in the UPA Fall Championship Series, we are
hosting a sectionals tournament here in Canada!! It will take
place on September 19-20, 1998 in Hamilton on the plush fields
of beautiful Churchill Park!!

For those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about,
the UPA is the Ultimate Players Association. This is the
ruling body for ultimate in the US. It used to be the top dog
of the US only, but it has recently expanded to allow Canadian
teams to compete in the fall National championships as well.

The fall series includes a Sectional, Regional, and National
tournament. The top teams at Sectionals advance to Regionals,
from which the top two advance to Nationals. This year is the
first year that Co-ed has been included in the fall series, and
we are hosting the Sectional Championships for our area which
includes all of New York State (except metro New York) and
Ontario. Regionals will be held on October 3-4 (location yet
to be determined), and Nationals are on October 22-25 in
Sarasota, Florida!!

If you wish to enter this tournament please reply to
ssphillips@bigfoot.com or call me at 905-573-9273. I need
your team name and contact information including e-mail, phone
number, and mailing address. Also include a brief bio and a
description of your team strength for seeding and division
purposes. I have already confirmed attendance from the Flying
Baby Grendals of Rochester, NY, and from Alien Junkhaus of
Hamilton, ON.

Notes:
1) The roster for each team is frozen after sectionals (i.e..
only those players that compete for one team at sectionals
may compete for that team at Regionals or Nationals.
2) All players that compete at Sectionals must be UPA members.
You may join the UPA on the day of the tournament. Fees are
$US 10 for students or $US 25 for non students for a one
year membership. Membership gets you several newsletters
per year plus many other benefits
   (see http://www.upa.org/upa/upa-intro.html for info).
3) You may only compete in one division in the fall series
(i.e.. you must choose between open/women's or co-ed).

MORE PEOPLE LOOKING FOR FALL LEAGUE TEAMS:

If in a week you still have not had any success finding a
team let me know. I will put your blurb back in the next
Ultimate Happenings. If someone wants to step forward and
be a captain and scoop some or all of these people then
just give them a call. Jack Webb (h: 231-6530,

somewhere.

I know it's getting late, but I'd still like to get on a
fall ultimate team...

I'm available any night of the week except Tuesday, and I'd
like to play on a fairly competitive team. If you can think
of anyone looking for a tall guy to go deep, please set me
up.
