CITY OF OTTAWA SPORTS FIELD STRATEGY
Every OCUA member has been invited to the City of Ottawa
Sports Field Strategy Open house, perhaps the most important
event in our quest for fields. If you want to have your say
about the unfair state of facilities allocations, this is
it.
---
The People Services Department invites you to an Open House
regarding The Development and Improvement of Sports Fields
in the City
Four months ago the City engaged IBI Group Consultants to
prepare a Sports Field Strategy to guide the development and
improvement of sports fields in the City over the next ten
years. In early February many sports field user groups were
invited to focus group sessions to provide input on current
usage and condition of sports fields, to identify
outstanding needs and to provide their ideas for the future.
Using the information collected from the user groups and
from other sources, the consultant has developed draft
recommendations for the construction, conversion and
renovation of sports fields to address current and future
needs throughout the City. Partnerships between the City and
user groups will be considered as one means of implementing
new and improved fields.
A public Open House to view highlights of the findings, and
the draft recommendations, will be held:
Saturday, May 10th, 9:30 a.m. to noon
Ben Franklin Place, 101 Centrepointe Drive
Consultant's Presentation: 10:15 to 1045 a.m.
City staff and the consultants will be in attendance at the
open house. You are invited to assist us in finalizing the
strategy by reviewing the recommendations, asking questions
and providing your comments. If you are not able to attend I
hope that you will pass on the invitation to someone else in
your organization. With community feedback the consultant
will complete the Sports Field Strategy for presentation to
the Health Recreation and Social Services Committee for
consideration.
We look forward to seeing you

THE 2003 DAREDEVIL DISCS' LAYOUT FOR LIFE TOURNAMENT
It's that time of year again, time for Daredevil Discs'
Layout for Life Tournament to support cancer research in
Canada.
When: Saturday May 31st.
Where: UPI
Cost: $225 ($250 after May 28th)
Format: 4/3, 4 games, 3 divisions (Rec/Beginner,
Competitive, Elite)
This exciting tournament also features a Beer Garden, BBQ,
and a party that evening (details to be announced later).
Standard 'field food' will be available as well.
Last year 26 teams took part in a fun day of Ulty, BBQing
and sunshine, all in the name of a great cause: fighting
cancer. This year we hope for even more.
The Rec/Beginner Division is for teams that are
inexperienced, or want to practice certain things or just
want to take part for the spirit of the whole event.
The Competitive Division is meant for medium calibre teams
that want to play to win. This includes veteran league teams
or lower level traveling teams.
The Elite Division is reserved for the highest calibre
teams, registration in this pool will be limited.
If you are a captain, get your team out for this great
event. If you aren't the captain, register anyways or pester
your captain to - 'canweplayinlayoutforlife - please -
canweplayinlayoutforlife - please - canweplayinlayoutforlife -
