Why games were called off

Normally, OCUA would not post an explanation as to why the games are cancelled for any given night, but tonight (June 12th) is a bit of an exception.

It's beautiful outside (25 degrees, slight breeze, and sunny) but it also rained 30mm all day Tuesday on already wet fields. The fields simply haven't had enough time to dry up to be playable.

I walked UPI, Lynda Lane, and another local City field to get a feel for how soaked the fields are and there is too much standing water and the ground is too soft to take even one league game.

Here is a piece of advice given by the people that maintain UPI: "go out to the field and heavily drag your foot along some of the areas that concern you. If it easily tears without much effort, it may be too soft yet to play". I did this at all three sites and I was able to tear the grass easily (without cleats).

Finally, the last thing that convinced me was this picture of a family of ducks that chose the endzone of field 1 at Lynda Lane as their new home. Ducks don't normally settle on dry grass.

Thanks for understanding and I hope that players will remember this when the fields are still in great shape come July & August.

PS: Perfect night to try Disc Golf. I highly recommend the free course out in Kanata. Here is a link to the course map and details: http://odgc.ca/index.php?s=c&ss=kan
