Ottawa Juniors Competitive Ultimate Program (OJCUP) Womens Teams

West 2023 - Silver Medalists at the 2023 Canadian Ultimate Championships Junior (CUC JR), Surrey, BC

If you were born 2006 or after and you love Ultimate, you might be interested in playing on one of Ottawa’s Junior Competitive Ultimate Wicked Girls division teams (West, East, Ruby), representing the city in local, regional, national and international (US) tournaments.

The summer season promises many great opportunities: highly experienced coaches, local tournaments, Ontario Regional competitions, and the possibility to attend the Canadian National Junior Championships in August!

All female matching junior aged players are eligible on Wicked Junior teams. For more information, please consult the OCUA policy on Gender Identity and Gender Equity, and the Ultimate Canada Gender Equity Policy.

2024 Season Overview & Important Date

Wicked Tryouts (all 3 girls teams)

Tryouts for all 3 teams will happen at the same time and place. Players will be split up by age and skill onto 3 different fields.

Tryout #1: Monday, March 18th, 6:30p, - 9:00pm, Gloucester Superdome

Tryout #2: Wednesday, March 20th, 6:30p, - 9:00pm, Gloucester Superdome

Tryout #3: Sunday, March 24th, 6:00p, - 8:00pm, Gloucester Superdome

 

Other Important Dates & Events

  • Program-wide mandatory Parent and Player Meeting: First week of April, online date and time TBD
  • Team Goal Setting Meetings: First or Second week of April, in-person, date, time and location TBD
  • Spring Practices: Early April - Mid May -- up to twice/week, dates, times and locations vary based on availability - indoors in domes and outdoors on turf fields
  • Summer Practices: Mid May - Late August -- Twice/week, Mondays and Wednesdays at Ultimate Parks Inc. (UPI) [1295 Manotick Station Road], 6:30pm-8:30pm
  • Summer Conditioning and Scrimmages: Mid May - Mid August -- 2hrs on Saturday mornings, time and location TBD

Tournaments:

  • May 18th-19th - Pioneer Valley Invitational (PVI) - 2 day tournament, Oxbow Marina, Northampton, Massachusetts, USA (Ignite, Scorch, Blaze) - Passport Required
  • Late May-Early June - Callahan for Kids - 1 day tournament, Bowmanville, ON (all teams will attend)
  • Late June - 1 day training camp, UPI (all teams will attend)
  • Mid-Late June - 1 day tournament in Montreal (some teams may attend)
  • Early July - Ontario Junior Ultimate Championships (OJUC) - 2 day tournament, somewhere in Ontario (all teams will attend) 
  • July 20-21 - No Borders - 2 day tournament, UPI (West will attend); if there is a junior division all teams may attend
  • Late July - Early August 1 day tournament, in Montreal (Ruby may attend)
  • August 11-14 - Canadian Junior Ultimate Championships - 4 day tournament, Ottawa (West and East will put in bids to attend. Ruby MAY put in a bid this year given the tournament in Ottawa. Bids are limited and are earned based on the placement at the Ontario Junior Ultimate Championships (OJUC). 

Estimated Costs:
Total estimated costs for the whole season (team fees, uniform, tournaments, accommodations at tournaments) for teams attending CJUC in Ottawa : ~$1,400-$1,850

Total estimated costs for the whole season (team fees, uniform, tournaments, accommodations at tournaments) for teams not attending CJUC in Ottawa: ~$1,000-$1,450
