UPI Daredevil Disc Golf Course

Founded in 2018, the original 9-hole disc golf course was designed in the wooded area behind UPI. The entrance was at the northeastern corner of UPI 18. The baskets were supplied by OCUA's official disc partner, Daredevil Discs, and the course was put together by local disc golf player, Geoff Rowland. The course was playable, but could not keep up with Mother Nature. Over time, the growth of vegetation was too much and the course fell into disarray. In 2020, the baskets were moved inside the perimiter of UPI and a new 18-hole course was designed with minimal maintenance in mind.

Where to buy disc golf discs? Daredevil Discs is a local Ottawa company that has a wide selection of drivers, midranges, and putters.

Disc Golf is a great sport for Ultimate players and can be played with a regular 175 gram disc. If members are interested in playing the sport with 'disc golf discs', here are some helpful links and tips.

General Tips for Ultimate Players transitioning to Disc Golf

Watch this YouTube video that explains some common issues that Ultimate players encounter playing DG.

  1. Keep the disc close to your body. (there is no mark to throw around)
  2. Learn flat release. (DG discs aren't the same as Ulty discs)
  3. Full follow through. (remember no mark)
  4. Full reachback on drives. (don't throw from your hip)

COVID-19 and OCUA Events Operations

The Ottawa Carleton Ultimate Association is carefully monitoring the COVID-19 novel coronavirus situation with regard to our league operations and larger events.

* UPDATE (Monday, June 22): All OCUA leagues continue to be suspended until further notice. Large scale special events like MGM, No Borders, and Youth Festivals have been cancelled for 2020. The City of Ottawa have re-opened sports fields for team practices only. July 6th is the potential start date for youth and adult leagues, however, OCUA will not start summer league until it is deemed safe to do so. The board of directors will continue to evaluate the situation on a weekly basis. *

UPI (Phase 1): Under Phase 1 of the provincial government's plan, UPI, as a private park, is allowed to re-open. OCUA set up a disc golf course that is available for use by members only (https://www.ocua.ca/Disc-Golf) and restarted its partnership with the Ultimate Park Electric Flyers.

UPI (Phase 2): Under Phase 2 of the provincial government's plan, UPI, as a private park, is allowed to re-open for team practices up to 10 people. OCUA set up a field rental system along with safety regulations and guidelines that is available for use by members only (https://www.ocua.ca/UPI-Rentals).

Summer league registration remains open knowing that adjustments to the season will be needed. Teams are encouraged to sign up and pay only the $200 deposit to secure their team's registration and allow them to start managing their roster. This will help OCUA manage operations and will make any possible financial adjustments easier to manage. If members feel uneasy paying for their registration, they may leave it as unpaid for the time being.

OCUA will also be taking its direction from federal, provincial, and local health agencies. Below are helpful links:
