Youth & Juniors Coaching

Our coaches are responsible for introducing youth or junior players to the sport of Ultimate with primary emphasis on fun and secondary emphasis on learning and understanding the sport of Ultimate. Coaches must have a basic knowledge of the rules and the ability to lead a team in functional drills while integrating fun games and challenges to assist in skill development. Each group of coaches will be supported by a Convenor at every league location and be provided with a practice plan each week for the duration of the season.

Responsibilities

  • Be available for as many league nights as possible for the duration of the league
  • Lead the practice drills with the help of the other volunteer coaches
  • Ensure a fun and safe environment for all players  
  • Answer parents' questions and concerns, and refer parents to the Convenor or OCUA as necessary

Skills

  • Experience in coaching youth sports and NCCP training is a bonus
  • Knowledge of Ultimate's techniques and tactics; Ultimate playing experience is an asset
  • A desire to work with youth in a positive, instructive and encouraging environment
  • CPR and/or other first aid training is an asset

Conditions

Per activities involved with age groups in the vulnerable sector, convenors and coaches are required to complete a Criminal Reference Check. If you don't have one, OCUA will provide you with the necessary documents to get one for free.
